Lipolifting is a procedure that is used to rejuvenate the face and lift and sculpt the arms, chest, and buttocks by transplanting excess adipose tissue from different parts of the body. In the facial area, it can be used as a correction of nasolabial folds, puppet wrinkles, “crow’s feet” around the eyes, lip augmentation, giving volume to cheekbones and cheeks. Excess adipose tissue is taken from another part of the body and, after special treatment, is used to fill in pronounced unwanted wrinkles. An important condition is that the patient is not too thin to have enough adipose tissue to transfer to the desired area.
The procedure can be performed under local or general anesthesia. The duration is about 2–3 hours, depending on the volume of the transplanted adipose tissue. It begins with the collection of adipose tissue, most often from the abdomen or thighs, by a small incision on a previously anesthetized donor site, and with the help of a thin cannula, the necessary amount of adipose tissue is extracted. Then, the adipose tissue is cleaned and injected into the desired area with the help of another cannula. The type of cannulas used is important since the “survival rate” of the injected adipose tissue is largely important and, accordingly, how long the achieved volume will be maintained.
An alternative to implantation is the introduction of adipose tissue into the breast area. Female patients should have slender breasts without sagging. Then lipofilling is performed after liposuction from other parts of the body, treating a fat with a special method and injecting it back into the breast. This is a suitable method for women with a moderate amount of subcutaneous fat, with narrow breasts, and who want natural results and small bust sizes. It is also used in the presence of a breast defect after a partial mastectomy, for breast cancer, or for removal of an adenoma, another type of injury or condition. After a total mastectomy, 2–4 procedures are usually required to achieve sufficient volume.
Injections of adipose tissue in the hands help to reduce age-related changes – add volume and eliminate sagging skin, tighten wrinkles, and improve the appearance of the skin. Lipolifting can also be used to form and enlarge the buttocks by the described method.
The great advantage of the procedure is the use of its adipose tissue and avoiding the risk of allergic reactions that may occur when a foreign body is introduced. It can be applied repeatedly until the desired effect is achieved.
This method involves the risk of bleeding, swelling, infection, and temporary loss of sensitivity, which are very rare and minimized if the procedure is performed accurately.
