For a long time under the warm rays of the sun, refreshed by the salty sea waves, we often forget to take care of our hair.
The drier our hair is, the more likely it is that it will break or curl. This is due to the fact that drier hair absorbs additional moisture from the air, which leads to swelling of the rod and destruction of the cuticle.
The high salt content in seawater is also a risk factor for hair, as water is pulled out of the hair and scalp.
American dermatologist from New York, Dr. Jessica J. Krant, along with a hairdresser who worked with actress Cameron Diaz, and Julia Papworth, give their expert advice on how to keep your hair healthy and fresh in the summer season.
1. Prune in early summer
Hair grows faster in summer because it enters the anagen cycle, which is characterized as the most active phase of growth, explains Dr. Krant. Therefore, a light glaze is recommended already in June.
2. Wear UV protection
The use of a hair care product containing UV filters is a useful preventive measure to protect hair from summer rays. There are various products in the form of sprays, gels, or creams that especially protect colored hair from fading.
3. Wet your hair before the beach
According to Papworth, if the hair is soaked in clean water or an indelible conditioner, it will not absorb as much salt water or chemicals as the pool. After the beach, rinse your hair well — if possible in the nearest shower or at least spray it with a spray gun.
4. Use the right hair products
Switching to a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner in combination with a suitable deep conditioning cream or oil is an important step towards proper hair care. Experts especially recommend applying a few drops of argan oil to the ends of the hair.
5. Let your hair rest
Experts recommend at least once or twice a week not to treat the hair with a hairdryer, ironing and ironing. Especially in summer, it is recommended to stick to the natural look without additional fixation.
